Weights Vs. No Weight Workouts Pros and Cons

work out weights

When it comes to exercise, there are two sides. The first side focuses on strength training, and the other side focuses on cardio. To build strength, you need weights, while cardio has various methods and tools available to it.

So what are the pros and cons of weight training vs. no weight training workouts? What you consider a pro and con is based on your workout needs, but here are some glaring differences between the two types of training.

Weight Training Builds Muscle vs. Cardio Burns Calories

If you’re looking to gain muscle and strength, weight training is the way to achieve your goal. With a proper plan in place, you can tap into the fat stores in your body and build muscle as a result.

Cardio, on the other hand, doesn’t build muscle mass. It simply burns calories and builds muscle endurance. So if you’re looking to lose weight or just be in better shape overall, cardio is where you need to start.

Weight Training Means Increase Risk of Injury Vs. Cardio Which is Low-Risk

There is an unfortunate number of potential risks attached to both weight training and cardio. However, weight training outweighs cardio on a scale of which has more risk attached to it.

Weight training can lead to physical injuries if bad form or too much weight is incorporated into the movement. Don’t let this scare you, just be cautious and aware of how you are performing each exercise.

On a similar note, cardio has its own risks attached, even if they aren’t nearly as severe as weight liftings. However, over-exertion when performing cardio can burn the muscles and drastically weaken them.

The main point is to understand your body and acknowledge its limits. What’s the point of being in shape or having muscles if you aren’t around to enjoy it?

Weight Training Requires Equipment Vs. Cardio Which Has Equipment-less Options

This is the most apparent pro and con available for the weights vs. no weights workout debate.

When it comes to training with weights, you need the actual weights. This means that if you happen to leave town for a business trip, or vacation, or emergency, you’re without the equipment to train. Sure, there are other gyms around, but sometimes it might not be the gym you belong to. You’ll be forced to shell out money for day passes simply to train.

On the other hand, if you were to purchase the equipment, you’d also be parting with a sizeable amount of money. Unfortunately, there is no easy solution to this issue.

With cardio training comes options. You just need somewhere to run, swim, etc. You have options that don’t require much more than just you and an open road or an available pool.
