Tips for Staying Motivated When Working Out

tips for staying motivated while working out

Working out is an essential part of being fit and healthy, but it can be hard to stay motivated. You might start strong, but because your body changes slowly over time, it’s hard to keep going.

Fortunately, there are a lot of ways to stay motivated and keep up with your workout routine. Here are a few tips to keep you going strong even if you aren’t changing as fast as you’d like.

Do Fun Workouts

You might know people who are runners, but you hate running. Good news — there are tons of ways to get in shape that don’t involve running!

It’s easy to get stuck on one particular workout style even if you don’t enjoy it. If you change it up and find something you have fun with, you’ll be a lot more motivated to keep going. Consider trying some dance workouts, hiking, rowing, or swimming.

You can mix it up to keep things from getting boring. If you do at-home workouts, do different DVDs or follow different fitness leaders. This will keep your muscles from getting used to the movements and keep things fresh for you too.

Work Out With Others

Being with other people is a great way to stay accountable and motivated. Maybe a group workout class is right for you, or you can exercise with friends and neighbors. Going for walks around the neighborhood or in a local park is a great way to get air and stay active.

If your health dictates that you can’t get together with others in person, consider doing a virtual class. There are a variety of streaming services available that allow you to work out with people without leaving home.

Workout apps can also give you a sense of community. You can compete against others in terms of exercise minutes, steps taken, or other fun metrics.

Having a sense of community is a great way to stay motivated and keep working out!

Reward Yourself

Obviously good health is the best reward for working out, but to stay motivated you need extra boosts along the way. Your health gets better slowly, and it can take weeks or months to see significant results.

To boost your mood, reward yourself for working out from time to time. Of course, these shouldn’t sabotage your results. Consider getting a massage once a month, or get yourself new shoes for walking or running.

You can also take time for some rest and relaxation. Watch a favorite show, take a warm bath, or enjoy some other type of comfort. These rewards will help you feel excited about working out and won’t hurt your results.

Keep Your Workouts Consistent

Staying consistent with your workouts is the only way to see long-lasting results. It’s not easy, but with these tips, you can stay motivated about working out.
